León Castellanos-Jankiewicz is a Max Weber Fellow at the EUI and Lecturer in the Law of International Organizations at Bocconi University. He currently studies the notion of subjective rights across public and private international law in historical perspective. His research interests include international human rights law, the history of international law, comparative constitutional law and international legal theory.
Previously, he was Visiting Fellow at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, University of Cambridge, and Visiting College Research Associate at Wolfson College, Cambridge (2017). He has been Junior Visiting Fellow at Vienna’s Institute for Human Sciences (2016) and Visiting Researcher at Harvard Law School’s Graduate Program (2015-16).
León obtained his PhD in International Law (summa cum laude) from Geneva’s Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in 2017. He also holds an MA in International Law from the Graduate Institute, a Bachelor of Laws from the Universidad del Mayab, Mexico, and is a grant recipient of the Swiss National Science Foundation.
He has been Legal Assistant in the United Nations International Law Commission (2010, 2012), and Researcher at the Amsterdam Center for International Law, University of Amsterdam (2010-2011). His publications address issues intersecting international human rights law, international criminal law and the law of state responsibility, and he is co-editor with L. Pasquet and K. Polackova of International Law and Time: Narratives and Techniques (Springer, forthcoming).
